welcome to the school furniture uk website

School Furniture UK sets out dimensions of the UK school population (3-18 years) through a series of charts of key body dimensions. In addition, dimensions are given for activities relating to related body dimensions, for example chair heights related to lower leg heights.

Additional information is also given for for common classroom activities not covered by British or European standards such as shelves and benches.

  • How high should a shelf be?

  • What is the best seat height for a seven year old?

  • If I am purchasing furniture for year 6 children, what size chairs and tables do I need?

This site aims to answer these and other questions frequently asked by teachers and building professionals.

The site will guide you through the decisions necessary to achieve the best fit in buying furniture for different age ranges. It has the most up to date sizes using data from the 2001UK survey of school children and references sizes to UK and European standards.

"I am pleased to be at the launch of the updated schoolfurniture.uk.com website which the Department has helped to fund to ensure a good information source is available to schools looking to buy furniture. It is important to ensure that purchasing decisions are made with appropriate standards in mind if we are to achieve good value."
